Today in 1997, streaming powerhouse Netflix began as a humble mail-order DVD service. Founded in Scotts Valley, CA by Marc Randolph and Reed Hastings, Netflix in its early days offered DVD sales and rentals through the mail. In 2007, streaming services were introduced, which has become the main focus of Netflix. Beginning in 2012 with the series Lilyhammer, Netflix began producing their own series and movies, now known as Netflix Originals. Due to their success, the company stated in 2018 that they would devote roughly 85% of their revenue toward their original programming. As of this writing, they have also made a partnership with Telltale Games (The Walking Dead, Tales From Borderlands, Wolf Among Us) to produce interactive story-driven video games exclusive to Netflix.
