June 11, 1962: Three Men Escape Alcatraz

Today in 1962, Frank Morris and brothers John and Clarence Anglin escaped from Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary. They (along with two men in 1937 who escaped during a bad storm and were presumed dead) are the only ones in Alcatraz' 29 year history to do so. Little more than circumstantial evidence exists as to what may have happened to them after their escape. Some claim they were met at nearby Angel Island in a stolen car and driven to Mexico.
