July 7, 1928: The Greatest Thing Since Sliced Bread Is… Sliced Bread
Today in 1928, sliced bread was first sold by the Chillicothe Baking Company of Chillicothe, Missouri. Using a slicer invented by Otto Frederick Rohwedder, their Kleen Maid Sliced Bread was an instant success. Not long after, W. E. Long pioneered a way to easily package the bread after it had been sliced. Beginning in 1930, Wonder Bread began selling pre-packaged sliced break nationwide.
